John Wallace, the new interim director of the Center on Race and Social Problems, has a somewhat unconventional goal — he wants to find someone who will take away his job.

Eddie Glaude Jr., professor and chair of Princeton University’s African American studies department, was the keynote speaker at a Wednesday event held by Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems in partnership with the African American Strategic Partnership.

Larry Davis, the dean emeritus of the School of Social Work, passed away on March 30 at 74. A renowned scholar on race in America, Davis joined Pitt as the school’s dean in 2001 and founded the Center on Race and Social Problems shortly after in 2002.
