Bonner addresses COVID cases, xenophobia at second SGB meeting

Kenyon Bonner, the vice provost and dean of students, addressed Pitt students and faculty at Tuesday night’s SGB meeting, asking community members to come together and take care of each other during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Students living on and off campus were required to complete a daily health check during their 14-day shelter in place.

Pitt says 85% of students have completed mandatory health and safety training

About 85% of Pitt students have completed the mandatory health and safety training as of Aug. 26, according to University spokesperson Kevin Zwick. He said the remaining 15% risk losing access to University IT services and campus buildings.

Pitt added 46 new COVID-19 cases, composed of 46 students, as of Monday’s weekly case report. Around 75% of all active positive cases are students who live off campus, Pitt said.

SGB to vote on modified governing code Tuesday

SGB unveiled Board Bill 2021-1 at its weekly meeting last Tuesday, seeking to update the governing code’s more outdated policies. Ben King, board member and chief of finance, authored the bill with co-authorship from President Eric Macadangdang and Aboli Kesbhat, allocations committee chair. The bill is posted online for public comment until SGB votes Tuesday.

SGB kicks off fall semester with first online meeting

SGB held its first public meeting for the fall semester virtually via Zoom on Tuesday night. Board members reported their activity from the summer semester and presented plans for the fall.
Pitt experienced a “major outage” on My Pitt that affected access to the site on the first day of classes, and Zoom suffered a partial outage that affected many U.S. users on Monday.
