Pitt releases clarified fall plans after ‘inadvertent’ email

Pitt released additional information late Monday about fall semester plans in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic after an “inadvertent” Monday email.

Pitt football announces plan for student-athletes return beginning June 8

Pitt Athletic Director Heather Lyke announced Friday that Pitt football student-athletes will begin to return to campus on June 8 for voluntary offseason workouts. The players’ return to campus will mark the start of the first phase of reopening for Pitt athletics in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The complexities of restarting research labs was the main focus of Friday afternoon’s Senate Research Committee meeting.

Research labs to become operational in coming weeks

Rob Rutenbar, the senior vice chancellor for research, said in a Friday email blast that each lab’s principal investigator must submit a plan to their dean or regional campus president for review. The plan must clearly define an approach for scheduling and a process for allocating time and access to address COVID-driven implications, Rutenbar said.
Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said Wednesday that Pitt will postpone Plan for Pitt 2025 in order to include strategies to strengthen racial equity justice on campus.

Pitt purchased an Oakland social club building on Bigelow Boulevard in late March for $4.95 million, according to Allegheny County real estate records.

David Hickton, the director and founder of Pitt’s Institute for Cyber Law, Policy and Security was selected to be staff director and senior counsel for the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis. The bipartisan committee, which was created on April 23 by a House vote, will oversee the use of funds supplied by Congress to aid the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.
