Pitt students and alumni win Fulbright awards

Fourteen Pitt students and alumni received Fulbright awards for the 2024-25 academic year. Earlier this year, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs named Pitt a Fulbright Top Producing Institution for the 2023-24 academic year, a recognition Pitt has earned 9 times since the 2013-14 cycle.

Nine Pitt students, alumni awarded Fulbright scholarship

The Fulbright scholarship enables students to teach or conduct research abroad. This year, nine Pitt students and alumni won the scholarship, which is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
Joanna Gorka is one of 15 Pitt graduates who won U.S. Fulbright Scholarships for 2021. The Fulbright Scholarship Program — an international, educational and cultural exchange program that sends Americans abroad to participate in research — allows students to enroll in graduate degree programs or teach English.

Two additional Pitt students were awarded Fulbright scholarships in late May, bringing this year’s total of students who received the prestigious award to 13.
Abby Neer will be working in either a primary or secondary school in South Korea as an English teaching assistant.

Pitt announces annual Fulbright winners

Eleven students won Fulbright Scholarships for the 2019-20 session. The Fulbright annually awards 1,900 scholarships to recent college graduates from the United States to spend time in a foreign country where they can teach English, conduct research or earn a master’s degree.
