On Wednesday morning, Pitt’s Executive Committee and University Planning and Budget Committee approved the University’s operating and capital budgets for the upcoming year. Among the approved changes include increases to tuition, staff minimum wage, and University operating costs.
The Senate Budget Policies Committee discussed Pitt’s salary appeals policy and the role of Planning and Budgeting Committees under the University’s new budget model, Budget ReSTART, at its first meeting of the spring semester.

Chancellor Patrick Gallagher said Pitt is discussing ways to enforce COVID-19 vaccination — for as early as the spring semester — such as tying vaccination status to student enrollment or faculty employment.
John Williams, head of Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office, said vaccines are important so students can return to their normal routines as the CDC releases more liberal guidelines for vaccinated people.
Pitt could receive the same amount of money as it did during fiscal year 2020, despite asking for a 5.5% increase in state funding for fiscal year 2021.
