More than $300K in student activities fund likely to go unused this semester

More than $300,000 in the student activities fee fund — which is financed through students’ tuition — will likely go unused this semester, as clubs continue online programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The federal CARES Act was passed in March and allocated $3.9 billion for Pennsylvania’s own CARES Rent Relief Program, aimed to help those struggling with COVID-related income loss and economic struggle.

As of Thursday, the Student Emergency Assistance Fund has granted a total of $254,326 to 457 students, out of more than 700 students who have applied for money.
The Student Emergency Assistance Fund was created in a joint effort between the Office of Philanthropic and Alumni Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs and allows students in need of emergency financial assistance to apply for a grant from the fund to cover expenses.
