Pitt’s athletic department suspended three football players following their arrest early Friday morning.

According to criminal complaints, officers arrested Pitt football players Andrew Carswell, Khaynin Mosley-Smith and Eric Williams at a house on the 3300 block of Juliet Street in South Oakland at 5 a.m. Friday. Police allegedly found heroin and drug paraphernalia when they searched the residence. Police also arrested another individual, identified as Darnell Reed-Young Jr., who has no apparent affiliation with the University.

City police raided the house after undercover officers purchased at least 20 bags of heroin from an individual there whom they later identified as Reed-Young at 10 p.m. Thursday. This followed a purchase of heroin from an individual at the same residence earlier this month.

According to the criminal complaints, all three players will be charged through summons for alleged possession of drug paraphernalia. Reed-Young was charged with four counts, including drug possession and delivery.

According to a press release, head football coach Paul Chryst immediately suspended the three players indefinitely on Thursday.

“We have strict and clear standards regarding these types of behaviors,” Chryst said in the statement. “What has occurred with these three young men does not represent the standards of our program or university.”

According to the Pitt football team’s website, Carswell, a sophomore a tight end, played in 10 games last season. He made 13 receptions for a total of 163 yards. Mosley-Smith, a sophomore defensive lineman, played in 13 games last year. He made a total of eight tackles, five solo and three assisted. Williams, a redshirt sophomore safety who played linebacker last year, also played in 13 games last year. He made 52 tackles, 29 solo and 23 assisted.

Authorities have set May 28 as the date of a preliminary hearing for all three players.

The three players did not respond to emails requesting comment.
