The Fighting Irish will make the switch in all sports except ice hockey, which the ACC doesn’t govern, and football. Despite Notre Dame’s decision to maintain its much-maligned independent status in football, it will play five games every year against ACC member schools as part of the agreement.
When the school will make the transition is unknown, but it must first provide the Big East with a $5 million exit fee and 27 months notice unless the university resorts to legal action to leave earlier, as both Pitt and Syracuse have done.
