Mark Lee Krangle, the Croton-on-Hudson, N.Y., man whom Pitt police arrested last April at Pittsburgh International Airport for sending three threatening emails to University professors, pleaded guilty to summary harassment today in Pittsburgh Municipal Court.

Krangle, 66, began sending the emails during the height of the anonymous bomb threats that targeted Pitt buildings last spring. Krangle’s emails mentioned the threats, according to a police affidavit, and implied that the contacted professors might be in danger if they ignored him. He also stated that he was going to come to Pittsburgh.

Krangle has never been charged in connection with bomb threats themselves.

According to court documents, Krangle was released by the court with time served. An additional harassment charge and a charge of making terroristic threats had already been withdrawn.

The Allegheny County public defender’s office, which represented Krangle, declined to comment.

The University could not be reached for comment.
