Junior goalkeeper Morie Kephart recorded the shutout after making one save on three Bulls’ shots.
The Panthers lone goal came in the 51st minute from freshman Ashley Cuba. The goal came after the Panthers stopped a Buffalo rush at midfield. Cuba took a pass from sophomore Klarissa Ames and made a move around the Bulls goaltender before shooting into the empty net.
With the win, Pitt starts the season with 1-0-0 record while Buffalo falls to 0-1-0. Despite the victory, the Panthers had more chances to score as they finished the game with a 21-3 shot advantage. The Panthers also led with 13 corner kicks against Buffalo.
Pitt will travel to Columbus, Ohio, on August 30 for a game against Ohio State. Start time is set for 1 p.m.
