This is the first in a series of pieces focused on finding the perfect bar. This city is endowed with a plentiful amount of pubs, and we wish to find those that rise above the rest.
Q’A with Eric Stern – Co-owner of Brillobox with his wife Renee Ickes
What is the Brillobox to you?
“It’s a community cultural place where we are the engine that allows for great things to happen, whether that be visual, music, spoken word or fashion. We view this building as a curated space, where my wife and I get to be the curators. It’s amazing.”
Why should I go to your bar?
“It’s worth the trip because it’s a comfortable, unique place. You can meet interesting people, watch crazy videos and listen to some of the best DJs in Pittsburgh.”
What are those random videos of Elvis Presley and the sea women of Neptune all about anyway?
“I’m really interested in the random collision of imagery and sound. The videos that are shown here are from my own personal collection.”
How do you see your bar fitting into the neighborhood of Lawrenceville?
“It’s a historic neighborhood going through lots of change, and we’re along for the ride. We want to be the magnet for a place of gathering.”
What will change once the new Children’s Hospital opens down the street?
“We are going to be open during the day for the new lunch crowd. I’m really interested in seeing how it affects the community at large, though. It should be interesting.”
