Bigelow Bash Tomorrow Activities start at 2 p.m.

Singer/songwriter Jason Mraz will be headlining for the Pitt Program Council’s annual Bigelow Bash tomorrow.

Pitt Program Council Special Events Director Sarah Olio said Mraz was chosen to perform because “some of the members of the council had seen him before and said he was a really good performer. He’s coming out with a new album and his newest song is on the iTunes top-10 play list. We knew he’d be a popular choice.”

Mraz’s new album, We Sing, We Dance, We Steal Things, is scheduled for release May 20, 2008. The University of Pittsburgh will be Mraz’s sixth stop on his “Music, Magic and Make Peace” tour with acoustic rapper Bushwalla and magician Justin Credible hosting. While activities will be going on at Bigelow Boulevard between Forbes and Fifth avenues all afternoon, you’ll have to stick around until early evening to hear Mraz take on the outdoor stage.

His appearance this year follows past Bigelow Bash performers like Ben Folds and Live. As well as national acts, Bigelow Bash will be featuring Pitt’s own Battle of the Band winner, The Jungle, which is comprised of students Hans Lorei, Alex Keim, John Bixby and Jay Maul, and will hit the stage at 2 p.m.

If live music isn’t your thing (for some reason), there are plenty of activities to keep you busy all day, including a hot dog-eating competition, airbrush tattoos and T-shirts, free food, carnival games and more.

Bigelow Bash’s activities begin at 2 p.m. tomorrow afternoon, and Mraz is scheduled to appear onstage at about 5:30 p.m. The concert, as well as the activities, are free to Oakland campus Pitt students, but admission is $10 for non-students.
