The…The Original magazine Arts and Crap Fair Tomorrow, 12-5 p.m. Schenley Quad

It is a rare day when works of art and trinkets become equals, but the Pitt’s The Original magazine is making it happen. Tomorrow, The Original magazine is hosting its second Arts and Crap Fair, a chance to buy or sell arts and crafts.

Jenelle Pifer, Pitt junior and public relations chair for The Original, said they’re hoping to fill Schenley Quad with the vendors’ tables and all-day music.

“We have at least 30 vendors signed up already,” she explained. “But people are still asking and probably will be until the very last minute.”

Pitt’s own WPTS radio station will be DJing from beginning to end, and The Original is planning on closing out the event with a raffle.

According to Pifer, the prizes include passes to the silk-screen Asian film festival and gift certificates from SDA travel.

In case fair-goers enjoy mixing food with their arts and crap, Sorrento’s Pizza Roma has donated 20 pizzas to satisfy the hungry buyers and sellers.

Katie Selig, Pitt senior and The Original’s managing editor, hopes that the eclectic vendors and an assortment of activities will be good promotion for a magazine that’s only three issues old.

The Original magazine, a newcomer to Pitt’s literary scene, is centered on the art, music and people that make up Pittsburgh’s diverse culture.

By opening this particular event to the entire community, not just students, the staff hopes to not only display unrecognized artists, but also to broaden The Original’s network.

“We want it to be a fun thing for Pitt students, but it’s also an interactive way of recognizing what people in the Pittsburgh area are doing, it’s like a big flea market,” Selig said. “We want to raise awareness about the magazine and raise awareness about the people that the magazine is geared toward promoting.”
