Shame on Brady, Moss for skipping Pro Bowl

When thinking of Tom Brady and Randy Moss, many phrases, most of which are positive, come to… When thinking of Tom Brady and Randy Moss, many phrases, most of which are positive, come to mind.
“Extremely talented” and “straight cash, homie” are the first two that most probably think of, but never did I think that I’d have to add “extremely disappointing” to those.
As of Monday, that’s what I will think of both Brady and Moss for at least the next year.
On Monday, both players pulled out of the Pro Bowl because of ankle injuries.
I don’t care about them losing the Super Bowl. They should lose more often. But don’t drop out of the Pro Bowl just because of it.
All of a sudden these guys are hurt? I don’t buy it. Moss didn’t appear to limp at any time during the game on Sunday. In fact, on a few of those throws late in the game where all he did was race down field, he easily had the Giant defenders beat by at least a step.
It’s just that he was so far away from Brady at that point it would’ve taken a Disney movie featuring angels to complete such a pass.
And I know that Brady is listed on the injured list every week of the season, but I figured it was done to add to his legend until it finally reached a point centuries from now where he played on one leg with no arms and threw the ball by simply yelling at it.
As fans, we’re supposed to believe Brady has a hurt ankle? Since when? Where is video evidence of either of his ankles ever being hurt? As far as I know, Brady is as healthy as ever.
Ankle injury? If Brady’s ankle so much as itched him during the two weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, we would’ve seen him in some sort of cast, or boot. Analysts would’ve spent days upon days analyzing Brady’s walk to see if he was limping or not. He would’ve missed practice time.
There wasn’t any such reporting before the Super Bowl.
Now, he and Moss are too good to play in the Pro Bowl, the pinnacle of athletic competition. In the words of America’s favorite announcer, Joe Buck, “That is disgusting.”
The Pro Bowl is a game for the fans. They vote in who they want to see play, they watch it and they love those red and blue jerseys.
To elect not to play in the Pro Bowl is beyond a slap in the collective face of NFL fans. It’s like running up from behind them and swatting the ball, which they thought was in their court because of the voting system, out of their collective hands.
What does a player achieve from winning the Super Bowl? A trip to Disney World and a parade. Or a player can do the most respectable thing and play in the Pro Bowl, and perform to his highest ability.
Doing that will allow him to sell merchandise covered with his picture and name, making him a lot of money. He can then pay for his own trip to Disney, and they have parades all the time there. Plus, Disney parades aren’t on vehicles referred to as “ducks.”
If anything, Brady and Moss should’ve sat out the Super Bowl so they would be healthy for the Pro Bowl.
I would think going to Hawaii would be higher on most people’s desired destinations than Arizona, and this is coming from someone who has been to neither of those places.
But I couldn’t possibly be wrong. You’re looking at going to a Super Bowl in Arizona, where you could hang out with Matt Leinart and play in University of Phoenix Stadium, or going to a Pro Bowl in Hawaii where you could party with Lilo and Stitch, and then go play in Aloha Stadium. It just sounds so inviting, like a greeting.
Replacing Brady and Moss on the AFC roster are Derek Anderson of the Browns and Chad Johnson of the Bengals. The Chargers’ Antonio Gates also announced he isn’t going to the Pro Bowl because of injuries, but that’s expected because he comes from a classless organization. Gates’ replacement is Kellen Winslow, also from the Browns.
If nothing else, Winslow will bring a warrior mentality to the game, or even try to hurt another player or two. And Johnson can try to work out a trade for himself while schmoozing with other coaches and general managers who are in Hawaii. Hopefully he also scores a touchdown, because there really shouldn’t be any worry of a fine for extravagant celebrating at the Pro Bowl. He can finally try out the sizzling bacon action dance.
Nothing against any of the three replacements announced, but it’s special when we see such a great quarterback-receiver tandem instantly click the way Brady and Moss did in their first year together. They’re already my 31st favorite current duo in the league – can’t say I’m big on Cleo Lemon and Ted Ginn Jr.
But what about all the fans who have these guys ranked in their top 30s and beyond? They’re missing out, just because of a few hurt ankles.
Maybe the Pro Bowl is seen a joke and completely worthless to most fans, as hard as it is to believe that. And just maybe the chances of me actually watching increased after reading Brady and Moss weren’t going to partake in the game. That still doesn’t make it right for them to want out of the game.
If anything, they should’ve done the play where they go to game, congratulate their opponent for winning a bit early and leave before it ends. Just like coach drew it up.
