Gone are the days near the middle -Jimmy Eat World is headed for the top.

The band, which just released Chase This Light, its fifth full album, last month will be playing Saturday night in Homestead (near The Waterfront) at the Carnegie Library Music Hall.

The album builds upon the slicker and more produced radio-emo-rock sound that Jimmy Eat World came out with on its last album, Futures, and includes popular modern rock single “Big Casino.” Full of big, chunky guitars, almost-danceable percussion and catchy, harmonized choruses, Chase This Light may be the most accessible record the band has recorded to date – a far cry from the band’s ragged and more emotionally charged earlier days of records like the cult favorite Clarity.

Chase This Light debuted at No. 5 on the Billboard album sales chart, a high showing considering the band’s relatively underground status.

Jimmy Eat world, which formed in 1994 in Mesa, Arizona, hit it big in 2001 with its hit “The Middle,” which became ubiquitous on rock radio for most of the year and was an MTV staple, with a video featuring teens partying in their underwear.

The band will be taking the stage in Homestead along with opener Viva Voce. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.

If the band’s catchy, hard-hitting sing-alongs on record are any indication, the show should be one to chase down.
