“I just drove down here from New Castle, I parked and it burst into flames,” Zach Bukowski, the driver of the car, said.
As the firefighters were extinguishing the smoldering car, Bukowski said he was more concerned about his mp3 player, which remained in the car, than the car itself.
Bukowski, who is not affiliated with Pitt, said that he had come to Pittsburgh yesterday evening for a concert.
After the firefighters completely put out the fire, Bukowski retrieved his mp3 player from the car.
“My mp3 player still works!” he shouted as he ran back toward the crowd of students.
A Pitt police officer on the scene gave no details about the cause of the fire, and the cause of the fire is not known at this time.
None of the residence halls in the quad had to be evacuated because of the fire.
