University of Pittsburgh graduate and award-winning author, Michael Chabon, is scheduled to speak with his wife Ayelet Waldman Monday at the Drue Heinz Lectures.

Chabon is the author of best-selling novels “Wonder Boys,” “The Mysteries of Pittsburgh” and “The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier ‘ Clay,” for which he won a Pulitzer Prize, along with many other awards. He also wrote two collections of short stories, “A Model World and Other Stories” and “Werewolves in Their Youth.” His latest novel, “The Yiddish Policemen’s Union” is scheduled for release in May.

Chabon has traveled across the country and throughout the world to places like Russia, Italy, France, Great Britain, Finland, Lithuania, Germany and Canada speaking to audiences on topics that include the art and craft of writing and the tradition of Jewish fiction. He has also spoken to creative teams at Pixar Animation Studios about childhood and fantasy.

His wife, a fellow writer, is the author of “Love and Other Impossible Pursuits,” and “Daughter’s Keeper,” which Vanity Fair called “powerful and provocative.” By combining her background in the legal field with her job as a full-time mother, she also created the popular “Mommy-Track Mysteries.” Waldman’s personal essays have appeared in a variety of publications, including The New York Times, Elle Magazine and Parenting Magazine. She regularly contributes to Salon.com.

Chabon and Waldman both actively support a nonprofit writing center, 826 Valencia, whose founder is fellow writer and friend David Eggers.

Pittsburgh Arts ‘ Lectures presents the Drue Heinz Lectures in association with Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.
