State of the Music Address

While every year brings something new to the musical table, some years certainly carry more… While every year brings something new to the musical table, some years certainly carry more of a positive historical impact than others. For example, 1998 saw Lauryn Hill bring new-school soul to the forefront of popular music with the Grammy-winning The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, while 1999 saw, well, Limp Bizkit.

Nonetheless, musical trends surely don’t come out of nowhere, and we’ve got to remember where music came from to be able to guess where it’s going.

So with the rock of 2006 still fresh in my mind, I will now venture to make my predictions for the trends, the music and the inevitable racist and faux-patriotic songs that Toby Keith will make in 2007 – emo will explode then disappear, rap will return to the socially conscious and pop won’t suck
