As far as the entertainment industry goes, January is a notoriously dull month: The movies disappoint, TV shows take a hiatus and most noteworthy CDs aren’t released until the early spring.
An emerging church in Lawrenceville is looking to change this slump, and the revolution begins this Friday. Catalyst, a small faith community located just a few miles north of Pitt, is sponsoring a free gallery event called “Cataclysmic: An Art Revival” to showcase the talent of the neighborhood.
More than 40 local artists have submitted pieces to the multimedia event. In addition to the paintings, photographs and sculptures, the show boasts free food, live entertainment, poetry readings and independent film screenings.
Best of all, the event doesn’t require tickets and is completely free.
Amanda Hess, one of the event’s organizers, said, “It’s completely free! Just show up and enjoy yourself.”
To follow her advice, catch a bus to Lawrenceville this Friday.
