Tomorrow at 8 p.m., the Renaissance and Baroque Society will present the musical ensemble, Artek, at Synod Hall. Artek’s program, “Graveyard Music,” is certain to bring to life the ghoulish Halloween spirit.

The group is composed of eight musicians performing with the lute, harp, theorbo, guitar, viola da gamba, harpsichord and vocals. Artek performs baroque music on themes of death and despair with pieces by Dowland, Sances, Monteverdi, Purcell, Merula, Ferrabosco and Vecchi.

“Graveyard Music” will also feature slides of graveyard scenes and original poetry by ensemble member Paul Shipper.

Founded in 1986 by director Gwendolyn Toth, Artek has performed at several sites worldwide such as at the Regensburg Tage Alter Musik Festival and the Utrecht Fringe Festival. From 1997 to 2002, Artek toured with the Mark Morris Dance Group, traveling to major venues in Italy, Canada, the United Kingdom and more than 50 American theaters.

Tickets for Artek’s performance are $30, $25, $15 and $10 for full-time students and can be purchased on the R’B website at www.rbsp.org, by phone or at the door. Two balcony seats for the price of one will go to anyone in costume.
