The University’s Institute of… Pitt doesn’t think pollution is just water under the bridge.

The University’s Institute of Politics has recently formed the Regional Water Management Task Force to further investigate regional water-management challenges.

According to a University press release, the task force will gather information about existing water-management organizations, and how other areas of the country are dealing with their own water issues.

They will also look at ways to promote regional collaboration to help unify and focus efforts to make sure that every person in the 11-county area will have access to clean and healthy water.

Jared Cohen, Carnegie Mellon University president, will chair the new task force. He had previously served as chair of the Pennsylvania Economy League’s Water and Sewer Infrastructure Project.

That project listed all of the region’s water-quality problems, according to a University Press release. Cohen said that the new project is a “natural follow-up” to the Water and Sewer Infrastructure Project.

If the task force decides that such action is needed, the press release said, it will begin phase two, which will contain substantial amounts of community outreach and how possible it will be to solve the water-quality problems.
