John Fedele, the assistant director of news at Pitt, said that there was a cracked toilet in the room above Henderson’s, which went unnoticed until the toilet was actually used.

As a maintenance crew began work on repairing the leak, they apparently found other spots that were about to leak through and proceeded to fix those as well, according to Henderson.

Henderson felt an assortment of emotions when she first saw the leak.

“I was kind of shocked and kind of mad,” Henderson explained. “But I immediately called maintenance and they came about five minutes later.”

Maintenance used a wet vacuum to clean up the water that covered Henderson’s bathroom floor.

She is receiving a new ceiling for her bathroom since the old one was affected by water and then drilled through in order to mend the problem.

Fedele also noted that the contractors began repairing the leak as soon as they were notified and that the University is pleased with the building overall.

“We are not aware of any other problems in the building and are quite satisfied, indeed proud, of the new building,” Fedele said.

As reported in yesterday’s edition of The Pitt News, the reviews of the new dorm were positive.
