The organizations – the Asian Students Alliance, Black Action Society, Interfraternity Council, National Pan-Hellenic Council, Panhellenic Council and Resident Student Association – will no longer be able to make major budget changes, without submitting budget modification requests to SGB.

President Joe Pasqualichio said that the change would make the groups more accountable to SGB.

“This is what we do. That is our purpose,” he said. “We need to be responsible.”

Previously, the student groups were able to redistribute funds without consulting the board.

Allocations chair Michelle Turbanic said that the former process allowed groups to host events that would not have been approved by the board.

Several student leaders voiced complaints with the proposal, however.

Lawrence Crockett, the president of BAS, said the exact changes being made were unclear.

“The wording is very elastic,” Crockett said of the memorandum that the new allocations manual will be based on. The memo was from Director of Student Life Kenyon Bonner.

Pasqualichio said that Turbanic will write the changes into next year’s allocations manual and base them strictly on what was in the memorandum.

Board member Erica Lillquist abstained in the vote.
