Pitt announced Friday that graduate student Megan L. Dietz was found dead in a Ruskin Hall… Pitt announced Friday that graduate student Megan L. Dietz was found dead in a Ruskin Hall apartment on Thursday.

Dietz, 24, was a Ph.D. student in biological sciences in Pitt’s School of Arts and Sciences.

The coroner’s office determined her cause of death to be a massive pulmonary embolism – blockage of an artery in the lungs – that was the result of a blood clot in her leg that moved up to her lungs.

She died on Sept. 8, at 9:10 a.m.

Ruskin Hall is a University-owned apartment building, located near the Cathedral of Learning. It’s designed to house medical students and Ph.D. candidates.

In a release from the Office of Public Affairs, a representative of the University wrote, “Our thoughts are with her family during this time of loss. We extend our deepest sympathies to her loved ones and her friends and colleagues.”
