After many months of planning, the Red Carpet Event by Student Government Board is finally… After many months of planning, the Red Carpet Event by Student Government Board is finally over after a busy Sunday night, and at Tuesday’s meeting, members had nothing but good things to say about the evening.

The meeting was relatively short and had few attendees, but that didn’t damper the congratulations given to member Jennifer Anukem for a job well done.

President Brian Kelly noted the response to the event from groups on campus. “I’ve received at least 87 e-mails saying it was a wonderful event,” Kelly said.

At the meeting, Anukem also commented on campus approval of the event, reading an e-mail from the African Student Organization.

Member Joe Pasqualichio tried to clear up any misconceptions about the event, saying that it was not just for “recognition.”

“What was in The Pitt News was in the opinion section,” Pasqualichio said. “People might read that who didn’t go and get the wrong opinion.”

Pasqualichio made reference to his closing speech at the event, which encouraged leaders to continue working hard for their organizations, even if they were not given an award Sunday.

In reference to his speech, Pasqualichio stated, “I believe a good leader can accomplish anything they want if they do not care who gets the credit.”

Pasqualichio believes the event was not held just to give a “pat on the back.”

“Rather, it is an opportunity to realize the talent of student leaders from a variety of diverse groups and the hard work they invest into making their organizations successful,” Pasqualichio said in his speech Sunday night.

“In a way, this [speech was] my opinion, too. This was our message, this was our intent of the program,” he said.

Anukem stood her ground on the topic of the purpose of the event.

“I don’t think I would have been elected if students didn’t want this Red Carpet Event,” she said.
