The preliminary hearing for the four Pitt football players accused of aggravated assault,… The preliminary hearing for the four Pitt football players accused of aggravated assault, which was scheduled to take place yesterday, has been postponed until Oct. 27.

Clint Session, Lance Asbee, Christopher McKillop and Daniel Pickens were scheduled to appear in court yesterday on charges stemming from a fight that occurred on Fraternity Hill on the night of April 16.

The worst of the injuries suffered in the fight was a fractured orbital bone that later required surgery.

Cris Hoel, a lawyer and Pi Kappa Alpha alumnus, said that postponements of this nature are not uncommon. One of the lawyers for the prosecution was reportedly scheduled to appear in federal court at the time of yesterday’s preliminary hearing.

Hoel said that the victims and their families have expressed disappointment in Pitt’s lack of involvement in the proceedings. However, he also said that the Pitt police and the district attorney’s office have been first-rate.

“On behalf of Pi Kappa Alpha, we are grateful to the Pitt police for conducting a good investigation,” Hoel said. “We remain hopeful of a just resolution after the criminal assault and trespass at our house.”

Pickens has since transferred to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Pitt officials declined to comment.
