SGB gives bit of fee windfall to groups now

They won’t get as much as they wanted — for now — but they will see more money.
Pitt… They won’t get as much as they wanted — for now — but they will see more money.
Pitt Program Council, Telefact, Panther Prints, Student Volunteer Outreach and WPTS will receive about half the extra money Student Government Board recommended giving them last spring, before the board’s recommendation to increase the student activities fee found the board of trustees’ approval.
In the first meeting since the end of the spring semester, SGB met Saturday to approve the halved increases, abandoning the spring recommendations after Dean of Students Jack Daniel announced this summer that SGB would have complete control over the fee distribution.
Proposing an annual review of the distribution of the fee, which was officially increased at Pitt’s board of trustees’ summer meeting, SGB members decided to distribute a portion of the increased revenue immediately.
“We wanted everyone to start feeling the effects of the activities fee increase,” President Brian Kelly said at the meeting.
In addition to the money each group received last year, PPC will receive an extra $74,853.50; Telefact will receive $12,530; Panther Prints will receive $1,000; WPTS will receive 12,046.50; and SVO will receive $530.
Each group can request additional money as the needs arise. In the coming weeks, SGB members plan to work out the process by which fee distribution will be set every February, for the following year.
