Married for the third time

So she’s at it again. Jennifer Lopez, who is reputed to be “in love with being in love,”… So she’s at it again. Jennifer Lopez, who is reputed to be “in love with being in love,” married singer Marc Anthony after, what, three months? Is the idea of marriage no longer taken as seriously as it used to be — think Britney Spears and Las Vegas — or do we care way too much about what direction people take in their lives?
Let’s go back nine months, to when the Bennifer empire still ruled the likes of “Star,” “Access Hollywood” and “Entertainment Tonight.” Matching Mercedes? We soon knew what color and from what dealer.
Ben Affleck walks into a restaurant by himself — oh, woe is me! Is Bennifer over? After planning a $2 million wedding, and an initial postponement, they eventually called it quits.
Jennifer’s track record is less than successful. Her habit of rushing into marriage never seems to end on good terms. Did she ever hear of the phrase “taking it slow?” Maybe she has just watched too many episodes of “Dharma and Greg.”
Let’s backtrack two years. Lopez was engaged to Affleck even before her divorce from dancer Chris Judd was finalized! They planned a multi-million dollar wedding with 200 of their closest friends, but after two years, never quite got there.
Let’s backtrack another year, to her relationship with Judd, whom she married. The two performed a choreographed routine at their reception. Oh, what was she thinking? And that ceremony took place only eight months after the end of a two-year relationship with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs
Backtrack eight more months to the tail end of her long and rough relationship with Combs, which included a highly publicized trial concerning Combs’ alleged illegal possession of weapons.
And let’s not forget the 1997 wedding that started it all, her marriage to Cuban waiter Ojani Noa, which ended in divorce a year later.
So let’s review, shall we? Her relationships that didn’t result in marriage ended up lasting longer than her previous two less-than-a-year nuptials. You would think she would have learned her lesson by now. Come on, Jen, marriage is a little more serious than having fun with your previous acting role as a wedding planner.
Even her past flames had their own responses to her sudden nuptials.
P. Diddy, who obviously has never gotten over the girl — just listen to the song “I Need a Girl” — sang “If she’s in love with somebody and that makes her happy, I’m happy for her. That’s my girl for life.” Awww, how sweet, P. Diddy. Maybe someday soon she will watch “Access Hollywood” and decide that you were actually the one for her. According to her track record, you have about a year until she’s back on the market again.
Chris Judd responded with the mature “let me cover up my anger” statement, “Jen, Marc, I wish you the best, and happiness, definitely.”
And in an even more mature fashion, Affleck responded with double thumbs up.
In all honesty, let’s be happy for the starry-eyed Mr. and Mrs. Anthony. Rumors of a baby on the way are already flying and the pictures taken from helicopters swarming around her house during the ceremony make the couple seem pretty happy. I think a little bit of each of us are hoping this one will last, not only so the media can shut up about it, but also so that Lopez can have a little bit of pride left.
