I wish to clarify information concerning salary raises for faculty and staff reported in the Jan. 7 edition of Pitt News as follows:

On Oct. 15, the University announced passage of the University’s budget and indicated that, “The budget establishes an increase of one and one-half percent to the salary pool available for raises for faculty and staff members for satisfactory performance. An additional pool of one and one-half percent is designated for merit, market, and equity pay increases.”

In the latter pool, one percent is available to University units, and the remaining one-half percent of the faculty and staff salary base has been maintained by the senior officers of the University to address unit-level compensation issues.
