The candidates chosen, while diverse in their views, shared the common characteristics of realistic goals, willingness to work together and compromise when necessary, and enthusiasm for our University and student body.

Brian Kelly’s willingness to listen and willingness to ruffle some administrative feathers, if need be, along with his experience and excellent communicative and organizational skills, make him our choice for SGB president.

For the board, The Pitt News endorses the following candidates:

Matt Hutchinson: Hutchinson has served on several SGB committees in addition to holding various leadership positions in the Greek community. His goals – mostly involving club sports and Pitt traditions – are realistic and achievable, and could make Pitt a better place to spend the college years.

Charis Jones: In addition to her experience as a board member and in leadership roles in several other campus groups, Jones’ record of hard work and willingness to listen to other board members with whom she disagrees makes her an excellent choice for the board. Her work ethic will continue to lend a level of excellence to the board.

Todd Brandon Morris: Morris’ successful lobbying efforts in Harrisburg this year distinguished him as a board member willing to look outside the University community for solutions to college problems. He has shown that he’ll follow through on his goals.

K. Chase Patterson: Patterson will be a breath of progressive fresh air for SGB. He has leadership experience in the Black Action Society, but he’ll be new to SGB. Extremely well-spoken and approachable, Patterson could be a uniting force for the board.

Joe Salvatore: Salvatore has distinguished himself as a workhorse through his committee work with SGB in the past. He has taken distinct action to find out about getting Pitt students a fall break, compiling a report from 60 other schools with information on their systems. His programs for freshman involvement will lead to great student leaders in years to come.

For an energized and communicative Student Government Board, consider these picks when voting today.
