The Panthers’ (2-4-1 overall, 0-0-1 Big East) only goal in the two games was the result of a penalty kick taken by sophomore forward Jennifer DeLaHoz.
“We were looking to rebound from last weekend and felt good about the tie, but we were hoping for better results [against Hofstra],” head coach Sue-Moy Chin said about the team’s overall performance.
Pitt 1, St. John’s 1
The Panthers traveled to Jamaica, N.Y., on Friday for their first game of the weekend against St. John’s University.
The Red Storm took the lead in the 23rd minute of play when Kaitlin Schmidt finished off her own rebound for the goal.
The game remained 1-0 until Pitt forward Kristina Francois was fouled in the box – one of St. John’s 22 fouls in the game – and the Panthers were awarded a penalty kick. DeLaHoz was given the shot and hammered it home for her third goal of the season, tying the game. The game ended with the score of 1-1.
Hofstra 2, Pitt 0
On Sunday, the Panthers, moved on to Hempstead, N.Y., where they suffered a 2-0 loss to Hofstra University.
Hofstra got out to an early lead when Marisa Pistone scored off of a corner kick in the 10th minute. Dolores Deasley passed the ball to Ashley Shaban, who finished for the second Hofstra goal in the 50th minute of the game.
Francois provided a spark for the Panthers again, firing the ball from 25 yards out. Hofstra’s goalkeeper barely deflected the ball, which then hit the left post and rolled out of bounds.
Hofstra outshot Pitt 15-3, and Panther goalkeeper Jamie Pelusi made four saves.
Pitt travels to Georgetown to play the Hoyas on Friday at 3 p.m.
“We’re looking for a win. Every game is important, but this one is going to be really important. We’ve only won one away game, and it was at a neutral site. We’re really looking for a win,” Chin said.
