To merely call JT LeRoy an author is an understatement. Barely able to legally consume alcohol, LeRoy began his career at the advice of his therapist and the literary world will be in debt to Dr. Owens for quite some time.

LeRoy has written several short stories under the pseudonym Terminator, a few novels, columns for 7X7 and SHOUT Magazines and additional freelance works. While his words speak for themselves, LeRoy doesn’t quite believe in himself enough to stand in front of a room and read his own creations.

LeRoy is the attraction of this week’s Good Friday event at the Andy Warhol Museum. To get over the reading-your-own-work hurdle, he has invited friend Randy Harrison, who plays Justin Taylor on Showtime’s Pittsburgh soap opera, “Queer as Folk,” to read in his stead. Among the works that will likely be heard via Harrison will surely include excerpts from “Sarah,” LeRoy’s coming of age transsexual novel, which is being adapted into a movie by director Gus Van Sant.

Post reading may include a Q’A session with the remarkable writer, and it will definitely feature a performance by LeRoy’s band, Thistle. Still hiding behind pen and paper, he extends his writing talents lyrically, scripting the rocking songs for the band.

While entry to the museum is always free with a Pitt ID, the lecture and concert will run you $10. Legal eagles can spend a bit more money at the cash bar if they can afford it.
