One month later, some of us will celebrate the birthday of a less or nonreligious king – depending on how you look at it. Tomorrow, the Fifth Annual Elvismas in Pittsburgh will be held at the YMPAA Club in Polish Hill.
The King’s actual birthday was celebrated in Graceland on Jan. 8, but it’s never too late to party. Rockabilly bands The Belmont Playboys will headline the bash, and Jimmy and the Teasers as well as local band Highway 31 will also be rocking around the clock. And you can bet your bottom dollar that you will hear Elvis tunes from these and other bands, which came from all over the East Coast to celebrate the King’s birthday Pittsburgh style.
The event, which kicks off at 9 p.m., will also feature a free buffet, DJ and door prizes. The mother of all door prizes for the night is an Elvis tattoo. Plan to stay up late because the party will last until 3 a.m. This is serious, folks.
Unfortunately for those of you reading Cheap, you are obviously lacking the touch of King Midas. Fortunately, this extravagant birthday celebration won’t break your wallet – it’s less than $10.
And if you are lucky enough to win the grand prize, the money you were saving to get your Hound dog tattoo can be put to something your parent’s won’t freak out about say, betting that the Bucs will beat the Raiders in Super Bowl XXXVII.
