To quote the little girl from “Poltergeist,” “They’re baaaack.” Yes, SR-71 is back with their new release Tomorrow. With an attempt at a harder sound than they had a few years ago on 2000’s Now You See Inside, they come up short. The album has a few highlights, like the title track of the album, which is receiving airplay and is bringing them back into the spotlight – even though it’s a rather dim light.

Today’s music scene is filled with popular bands that play radio-friendly music that will help them make it big one day. Now, of course the main reason to make music is to eventually make it big, sell records and be a successful part of the music industry. Sometimes, though, playing the day’s popular music is enough to get you a record contract.

Of course, since this is an album review of SR-71, you are now going to read that SR-71 is one of the previously described bands, and if this is news to you, where have you been? SR-71 is big on shaping their style to what is popular. With one radio hit, “Right Now,” the only SR-71 song most people know, they built up a head of steam and then fizzled away.

Even though Tomorrow is a semi-decent album, it fails for the simple fact that they make a poor attempt of being a heavy alternative band. If it makes anyone feel better, the lyrics actually make sense this time around. Unfortunately that doesn’t save the album – but they try.
