The Pitt men’s soccer team was unable to get on the scoreboard in its loss to the Boston… The Pitt men’s soccer team was unable to get on the scoreboard in its loss to the Boston College Eagles on Sunday afternoon.

Boston College (8-3 overall, 5-2 Big East) was able to sneak one goal by Panthers goalkeeper Justin Gaul in each half in the Eagles’ 2-0 victory.

The Eagles’ Neil Krause put Boston College ahead 1-0 midway through the first half. Uri Magen-David roamed free down the left side and connected with Krause on a crossing pass in front of the net. Krause put the ball in the net at the 33:27 mark and his goal proved to be the only goal Boston College would need.

With six minutes to go in the second half, the Panthers (7-6-1 overall, 2-5-1 Big East) were called for a handball violation outside of the box and directly in front of the goal. This gave the Eagles a free kick and they took advantage of the penalty as Boston College’s Guy Melamed put the game away with a goal into the upper right corner of the net at the 52:09 mark to make the score 2-0.

The Panthers were held to eight shots compared to Boston College’s 20 shots. Krause, Magen-David and Melamed shared the team lead in attempted shots with four each. In the first half, the Eagles took 13 shots and Pitt took three.

Gaul was able to come up with three saves and Eagles goalkeeper Kyle Singer matched Gaul’s total in saves.

The Panthers started out with a promising record of 5-0 this season, but have dropped five of their last six games.

Pitt has dropped its last three games against Big East opponents and is next in action at Big East foe Rutgers on Oct. 26.
