According to a crime alert posted by CMU police, the victim was walking alone along the track in Gesling Stadium at about 1 a.m. Sunday when she was grabbed from behind and sexually assaulted. The attacker, a man about 5 feet 9 inches tall, ran away across the stadium floor toward Beeler Street.

The woman described the assailant as thin, with a muscular build, but couldn’t identify his race or age. He wore a long-sleeved white turtleneck shirt, jeans and a black ski mask.

According to CMU police Chief Creig W. Doyle, police have not identified any suspects, but are working closely with the city police Sexual Assault Unit, and are currently following up on leads with local hospitals.

In compliance with the Jeanne Clery Campus Crime Act, police released a crime alert the day of the assault, alerting CMU students to the fact that a rape occurred on their campus. In the alert, police advised students to avoid walking alone at night, stay in well-lit areas, use CMU’s escort service for walking partners at night, and register for the school’s Rape Aggression Defense classes in October.
