Roars and screeches fill the Serpentine Room. Three pterodactyl hang upside down from a tree. A bubbling spring steams below a rhamporhynchus and a pair of velociraptors are poised upright nearby.
Dinosaurs have overrun Phipps Conservatory.
Dinoquest, a new exhibit that occupies most of the conservatory, places the dinosaurs in a lush natural environment. The exhibit presents visitors with a rich image of the world during the time of the dinosaurs. Dinoquest features the work of Guy Darrough, a self-taught fossil collector and fossil preparation expert.
Darrough creates armatures for the realistic-looking dinosaurs out of wire, foam and wood, then covers the frame with clay and silicone rubber. A finish of plastic and fiberglass completes the process.
