In its spirit of bringing fresh music to campus, progress, Pitt’s campus radio station WPTS announced Tuesday it will host progressive band Darwin Deez at its annual spring show in April.
Darwin Deez, an indie rock band from New York City, will play in the William Pitt Union Ballroom Friday, April 1, at 7:30 p.m. Students can purchase tickets, which WPTS is selling for $5 each, at the William Pitt Union ticket office, Sound Cat Records on Liberty Avenue or Dave’s Music Mine on East Carson Street.
Darwin Deez will play alongside Pittsburgh-based indie pop/electronic artist Emerson Jay, WPTS said in a release. The station expects around 300 students to attend the concert.
Claire Harshbarger, the promotions director for WPTS, said the station chose to invite Darwin Deez because the band was “poppier” but still fit WPTS’s progressive, non-top 40 format.
“I wanted to bring in an artist that will attract a wide array of community members and Pitt students,” Harshbarger said in an email.
Editor’s note: Prior to publication, WPTS said it will host the concert in the William Pitt Union’s Assembly Room. It will actually host the concert in the Ballroom. The story has been updated to reflect this change.
