4:20: END OF FIRST QUARTER. Morris passes to Hurns on Miami’s first play, and the receiver goes 66 yards to the Pitt 14. Panthers trail 17-7 after a quarter of play.
4:18: Tyler Boyd caught two passes from Savage to set a record for most receptions by a freshman in a season at Pitt, but the Panthers have to punt. 34 seconds left in the first quarter.
4:12: FIELD GOAL MIAMI: Coley dropped a pass from Morris in the back corner of the end zone where he was wide open, and Matt Goudis makes a 29-yard field goal to cap a 18-play, 78-yard drive that spanned 6:35. Panthers trail 17-7 with 3:21 left in the first quarter.
4:05: Pitt came up with a stop on the 38 on a third-and-4, but the Panthers are flagged for an illegal substitution. The five-yard penalty gives Miami the ball at the 33, and the Canes are about to enter the red zone after a first down.
3:54: TOUCHDOWN PITT: Isaac Bennett slices through the left side and carries 44 yards to the house, a career-long rush for Bennett. Panthers trail 14-7, 9:56 to play in the first.
3:52: Tyler Boyd returns Miami’s kick 40 yards, and a 7-yard rush by James Conner pushes Pitt into Miami territory for the first time today.
3:48: TOUCHDOWN MIAMI. Morris throws a screen pass on second down to Coley, who exploits a seam and sprints 34 yards for a touchdown. Panthers now trail 14-0 with 11:30 to play in the first quarter.
3:45: Miami forces a three-and-out on Pitt’s first drive, then Matt Yoklic’s punt is partially blocked and travels just nine yards. Miami ball at the Pitt 42.
3:41: TOUCHDOWN MIAMI. On third down, Miami quarterback Stephen Morris found Stacy Coley who was wide open on a flag route for a touchdown from 31 yards out. Pitt trails 7-0, 13:46 left in the first quarter.
3:38: Pitts returns the opening kick from the Pitt 1 past the 30, but fumbles and Miami takes over in Panthers territory at the 35.
3:35: Miami wins the toss, and defers to Pitt to receive.
