Pitt announces kickoff for season opener

The Narduzzi era finally has its starting point.

Pitt announced Friday that its season opener against Youngstown State kicks off at 1 p.m. at Heinz Field on Sept. 5.

It will be Pat Narduzzi’s first game as Pitt’s head coach, after Pitt hired him in December of last year.

Narduzzi’s father, Bill, was the head coach of Youngstown State from 1975 to 1985. Narduzzi played for his father as a freshmen in 1985 when he attended the university as an undergraduate.

Pitt last played Youngstown State in 2012, another home game opening the tenure of then new coach, Paul Chryst, who Narduzzi replaced.

Youngstown State won 31-17.

The only other announced kickoffs are 8 p.m. at Iowa on Sept. 19 and 7 p.m. at home against North Carolina on Oct. 29. ESPN will nationally televise the game.
