All students should be required to have a COVID-19 vaccination to participate in on-campus activities next fall, according to a proposal introduced at Wednesday’s Faculty Assembly meeting. No formal vote was given on this resolution at the meeting.

Larry Davis, the dean emeritus of the School of Social Work, passed away on March 30 at 74. A renowned scholar on race in America, Davis joined Pitt as the school’s dean in 2001 and founded the Center on Race and Social Problems shortly after in 2002.
History professor Alaina Roberts helped create a formal proposal last summer that called for all undergraduates to complete a Black studies course as part of their general education requirements.

Student-run news channel seeks to connect Chinese international students with Pitt

Since Yitian Wang founded Pitt-China Weekly this February, the news channel is making the nearly 7,000-mile distance from Pitt to China feel a little shorter for Chinese international students and their parents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The University Senate held the plenary after a year of examining systemic racism and inequality within the Pitt community. The plenary, which encouraged all students, faculty and staff to attend, had three panels that discussed the inequality within the University and the necessary steps for improving the University.
Joanna Gorka is one of 15 Pitt graduates who won U.S. Fulbright Scholarships for 2021. The Fulbright Scholarship Program — an international, educational and cultural exchange program that sends Americans abroad to participate in research — allows students to enroll in graduate degree programs or teach English.
