A student-run “police advisory body” became an official subcommittee of the long-standing Chancellor’s Public Safety Advisory Council this week, according to Student Government Board member Kathryn Fleisher.

A petition urging Pitt to adopt a more lenient grading policy amid the COVID-19 pandemic has gathered nearly 2,600 signatures in a week. Pitt spokesperson Kevin Zwick didn’t directly respond to questions about the proposed S/NC option.
In place of overseas and domestic travel, which had been cancelled, Pitt is offering a variety of virtual internships.

In place of in-person study abroad, Pitt is offering “virtual internships.” These internships are unpaid, three-credit pass/fail programs that run from Feb. 5 to April 30. There is no additional cost beyond a student’s normal tuition.

Sudeep Yedulla — the first student on campus to contract COVID-19 — said “everything that could have gone wrong, went wrong” after he tested positive. Yedulla said Pitt provided little food, delivered broken items and ignored his texts and emails.
The Properties & Facilities Committee of the Board of Trustees approved an expanded construction project of the now $72-million Salk Hall renovation project.

Pitt will offer students at-home COVID-19 tests after they go home for Thanksgiving break, according to Dr. John Williams, the head of Pitt’s COVID-19 Medical Response Office.

More than $300,000 in the student activities fee fund — which is financed through students’ tuition — will likely go unused this semester, as clubs continue online programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Provost Ann Cudd and seven other provosts at Pennsylvania universities signed a document last Tuesday saying the new visa rules proposed by the Department of Homeland Security  rules are “unnecessary” and “harmful.”

Pitt submitted comments on Oct. 27 opposing new visa requirements proposed by the Trump administration. The document, signed by Provost Ann Cudd, said the rules are “unnecessary” and “harmful” and called on the federal government to immediately withdraw them.
