New York has a distinctive basketball culture. It is blue-collar, born from pick-up games on blacktops and manifested through moxie. So when the Big East basketball tournament moved to New York City in 1983, member teams embraced the natural fit — and no one embodied the host city’s gritty personality more than the 2008 Pitt Panthers.
Ben Howland took over as Pitt’s Men’s Basketball head coach in 1999 and built the Panthers into a contending team on the national stage.

Pitt men’s basketball just had its second player enter the transfer portal this week. Sophomore guard Trey McGowens announced Wednesday evening via his Twitter account that he had entered the NCAA transfer portal. Jake Weingarten of Stockrisers.com was first to report the news.

Newcomers to shuffle Pitt basketball rotations

With Pitt basketball officially ending their season with a record of 16-17 and 6-14 in conference play, it is time to look forward to next season. As the Panthers welcome new faces into the fold, there will be a fight for playing time and a different rotation will surely be in order for next season.
