The Pitt men’s soccer team won its first NCAA Tournament game ever, defeating Lehigh 2-0 Thursday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field in the first round.

1965 was an eventful year both around the world and right here at Pitt. The University was in talks to become a state-related institution, Chancellor Edward Litchfield resigned and the men’s soccer team appeared in the NCAA National Tournament for the second time in four years.
Despite the 1-0 loss to Clemson in South Carolina Wednesday night, the Panthers set new records by making it to the semifinal stage in the ACC tournament for the first time in program history.

Clemson’s single semifinal score dooms Pitt in ACC tournament

No. 4-seeded Pitt and No. 1-seeded Clemson rocked back and forth to the very end in a competitive ACC tournament semifinal matchup. A single score in the 44th minute for Clemson proved too much for Pitt, which lost 1-0 in South Carolina Wednesday night.
No. 3 Pitt men’s soccer extended its win streak to four with a convincing 2-0 victory over Notre Dame on Saturday night.

Pitt men’s soccer won the biggest ACC game in program history, defeating North Carolina State 2-1 in overtime in the ACC tournament quarterfinals in front of a packed crowd at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Head coach Jay Vidovich came to Pitt in 2015 after an illustrious career at Wake Forest where he served as an assistant coach from 1986-93 and then as head coach from 1994-2014.
