If Pitt returned to online classes, once again citing breakthrough cases as a concern, there would be little to no solid reasoning for doing so, unless the virus mutates in a very dangerous way.

Pitt officials said 56 students and 22 faculty and staff members tested positive for COVID-19 over the course of a 10-day period from Aug. 27 through Sept. 7. The report also said 89% of undergraduate students has uploaded proof of a COVID-19 vaccine.

In an email sent to Pitt faculty on Wednesday, Provost Ann Cudd confirmed that all classes will meet in person starting Sept. 13, unless professors received permission for remote or hybrid instruction from their dean.

Pitt officials said Thursday that 87% of undergraduate students on the Oakland campus have uploaded proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Of undergraduates living on campus, 96% submitted proof, and 82% living off campus submitted proof.
“Welsfest,” a block party that took place Saturday on Welsford Street in South Oakland, drew much larger crowds of Pitt students than expected.

About 1,000 Pitt students sang “Let’s go Pitt!” in the chorus of “Sweet Caroline,” supposedly broke a front porch and stood shoulder-to-shoulder this weekend at “Welsfest” — a block party on Welsford Street in South Oakland.
The on-campus homes of Panther sports will sell beer, hard seltzer and wine.
