Weekend sports: Gymnastics win at home, track dominates on the road

The weekend in Pitt sports was highlighted by resumé-building wins and tight losses. At home, the gymnastics team hosted a victorious tri-meet against Yale and Towson. On the road, the track and field team placed first in several events, wrestling came up short and softball split its weekend in South Carolina.

Pitt athletics traveled far and wide this weekend, with six teams competing all across the country. While men’s basketball’s win at home over Georgia Tech grabbed most of the headlines, other squads suited up for both conference and non-conference play — and experienced an even mix of results.
Kellan Stout put Pitt (7-3) up 3-0 over NC State (12-0) at the start, but Pitt eventually fell to NC State 21-12.

First-year Abby Edwards pitched against Ohio University during a March 19 game. This past weekend, the Panthers lost all three of their games against Virginia Tech.

Pitt gymnastics achieved its highest score this season on Friday night. It placed second against West Virginia University and Ball State, losing to West Virginia by less than half a point.
