Larry Davis, the dean emeritus of the School of Social Work, passed away on March 30 at 74. A renowned scholar on race in America, Davis joined Pitt as the school’s dean in 2001 and founded the Center on Race and Social Problems shortly after in 2002.

Davis — the founding director of Pitt’s Center on Race and Social Problems, as well as dean emeritus of the School of Social Work — talked about his book and issues surrounding race at the “Will Race Always Matter?” lecture Tuesday evening. The event was hosted by the CRSP, Thornburgh Forum, the University Honors College, the Institute of Politics and the School of Social Work.
The Fiber Arts Crew is a tight-knit group of knitters and crocheters across Pitt’s regional campuses working to make 100 blankets for each of the anticipated attendees at The Older Youth Retreat in 2020, an event for foster youth from across Pennsylvania.
