Swimming, track prepare for ACC Tournaments

This weekend holds high stakes for Pitt athletics, with the ACC Indoor Track Championships taking place Feb. 27 to 29 at Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana, and the ACC Men’s Swimming Championships taking place Feb. 26 to 29 in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Senior Alecia Petrikis won floor exercise once again Friday with a 9.850.

Women’s swimming and diving posts strong ACC Tournament

The weekend in Pitt sports was highlighted by a major upset from wrestling and continued steady play from baseball, but both basketball teams continue to struggle. Women’s swim made a splash at the ACC Swimming and Diving Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina, while softball played just down the road in Greenville.
Senior swimmer Valerie Daigneault finished 11th in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 1:58.33 at the 2020 ACC Championships.

Senior swimmer Valerie Daigneault scored points individually and as part of Pitt's 800-yard freestyle relay to lead the Panthers over the first two days of the ACC Championships.
Pitt swept the 0-11 Duke Blue Devils 50-0 Saturday and beat out Edinboro 28-6 Sunday.

Swim supremacy and wrestling conquest highlight Pitt sports weekend

The weekend in Pitt sports was highlighted by the No. 10 wrestling team bouncing back in a big way after a tough loss against Oklahoma State on Saturday, Jan. 18. The swim and dive team excelled too — along with Senior Day festivities, they dominated other universities in the area in the Western PA Invitational at Trees Pool.

The Pitt men’s swim team brought back nearly every member of last year’s record setting group, including speedster Blaise Vera — who at one point this season held the national 50-yard freestyle record.
Senior Michaela Burton posted a score of 9.875 on the floor exercise, the highest on the day during Pitt’s 193.750-193.225 loss to Ball State.

Pitt athletics did its best to combat autumn’s shrinking days and growing nights by stacking win upon win over the weekend and lighting the top of the Cathedral. In what may be one of the best weekends in recent Pitt sports history, there were upsets, new milestones and continued dominance, all worthy of Cathy’s weekly light show.
Pitt swept all four diving events on Saturday at a quad meet against Duquesne, Villanova and Youngstown State at home.
