Pitt sends four athletes to national meet to compete in 4x400m relay

Pitt track and field will compete in just one event at the National Outdoor Track and Field meet this week in Eugene, Oregon, but four Panthers are making the trip. The foursome — composed of senior Cobe Wiggins, senior Lonzell Feagin, junior Matt Wilson and senior Ade Jones-Roundtree — will compete in the 4x400m relay event on Wednesday night after qualifying for the event at the Eastern Regional about a week ago, becoming the first relay team since 2014 to earn a spot in the national meet.
The Panthers will send their first relay team to nationals in seven years, as the foursome posted their season-best and fifth-fastest in program history with a time of 3:06.92 in the 4x400m event.

Men’s 4×400 relay team qualifies for NCAA Outdoor Championships

The NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary Round came to a close over the weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. Multiple Panthers had solid performances, but the weekend was headlined by the Pitt men’s 4x400m relay team earning a bid to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after finishing No. 7 overall at the event.
Although the overall team scores left Pitt’s track and field program below most of the other ACC programs, there were some notable individual performances at the ACC Outdoor Track and Field Championships this past weekend.

Three trips to the podium headline Panthers’ performance at ACC Outdoor Meet

Three trips to the podium, two first-team all-ACC performances to go along with six second-team selections and four school records headlined the weekend for the Panthers. The men’s team finished 10th place overall at the event while the women’s team placed 12th.
After a roller-coaster of a season, Pitt’s baseball program earned itself a spot in the ACC Tournament in Charlotte N.C. Pitt enters the tournament as the No. 10 seed, placed in Pool C along with the No. 3 NC State Wolfpack and the No. 6 North Carolina Tar Heels.

Wolter wins decathlon, baseball and softball pick up series wins

Baseball and softball both captured key series victories over conference foe North Carolina this weekend in Pittsburgh. Softball swept the Tar Heels, while baseball won two of three over the course of the weekend.
Senior Felix Wolter, who earned All-American honors recently, finished fourth place in the 100-meter dash and seventh in the long jump in Knoxville this weekend as the Panthers capped off the Tennessee Relays. Pitt will head to Virginia next weekend for the Virginia Challenge meet on Friday, April 16, and Saturday, April 17.

Weekend sports recap: Baseball and track and field make up for softball woes

The weekend saw a rough performance for Pitt softball, but strong performances from Pitt track and field and a sweep from the baseball team made up for it.
Senior Blaise Vera earned First-team All-American honors with his performance in the 50-yard freestyle. He finished in seventh place, earning his team 12 points.

A double overtime win for men’s soccer and multiple top-10 placements for track and field highlighted this weekend of Pitt sports. Panthers swimming and diving also concluded its season with a 26th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
Senior Felix Wolter finished in fourth place in the men’s heptathlon with a final score of 5907 in the NCAA track and field indoor championships this weekend, earning him first team All-American honors.

Elsewhere, Pitt baseball took part in multiple slugfests against West Virginia, and Pitt gymnastics split a series against West Virginia.

Pitt wrestling, swimming compete in ACC Championship meets

Pitt athletics enjoyed an eventful and successful weekend. Men’s swimming competed in Greensboro, North Carolina, during the second round of the ACC Championships as the wrestling team competed in Raleigh, North Carolina, for ACC Championships of its own. One state over, the track and field team also competed for its conference championship in Clemson, South Carolina.
John Woodruff from Connellsville won a Gold Medal in the 1936 Olympics held in Berlin, Germany.
