ACC announces delay for some fall sports

The Atlantic Coast Conference Board of Directors announced Thursday afternoon that the beginning of fall Olympic sports will be delayed until Sept. 1. Pitt’s men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball and cross country are among the affected sports. ACC field hockey programs will also be subject to the delay, but will not apply to Pitt, which does not have a program.

The gut-wrenching image of Pitt volleyball’s seniors in tears after last season came to a shocking end still rings through to Pitt fans many months later. The team with an unblemished resumé that set new program highs the entire season had once again found itself eliminated in the NCAA Tournament’s first weekend of matches.

Additional athletes to return to campus on June 29

Two weeks after Pitt welcomed football players back to campus for a phased return to voluntary offseason activity, Pitt Athletics announced Tuesday that five other Panther teams will return on June 29 for a similar process.
